Frikkie Nel
Founder & Director
Frikkie Nel is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of The F&S Group. After completing his B.Com Hons degree at the University of Potchefstroom he joined a reputable Randburg-based firm as Article Clerk.
From here he started The F&S Group from home as a sole proprietorship in the mid-1990’s and he has dedicated his professional career to the development of the company and its clients, as well as its employees. Whilst Frikkie specialises in accounting, the setting up of trusts and especially in tax-related matters, he remains directly involved in the well-being of both clients and employees. He keeps his finger on the pulse of every client The F&S Group assists in ensuring a professional service of the highest quality. He is also dedicated to the professional development and training of our Article Clerks by personally overseeing the quality and standards of the training programme.
Benjo Laing
Director
Benjo Laing started his journey at The F&S Group as a clerk, leveraging his BComm Financial Management degree to navigate his way into a managerial role, where he guided and mentored trainees since 2012. In October 2021, he was appointed as one of the directors of F&S Accounting and Auditing (Pty) Ltd, marking a significant milestone in his career trajectory. His dedication to professional development led him to achieve certification as a Certified Chartered Accountant from ACCA in November 2023
With a diverse skill set encompassing business consulting, group structuring, financial reporting, audit and assurance practices, and risk assessments, Benjo is committed to evolving into a strategic partner for his clients. His mission is to provide them with the most efficient and effective advice to foster business growth and wealth creation. Additionally, he is actively researching sustainable reporting methodologies and integrating AI into business operations to stay ahead of the curve in the ever-changing landscape of financial services.
While his focus has shifted towards client engagements, Benjo remains passionate about mentorship and teaching. He continues to provide support to trainees within The F&S Group, ensuring they receive the direction and encouragement to excel in their careers. He firmly believes in instilling strong corporate values in the next generation of professionals, emphasizing professionalism and integrity in all client interactions.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Benjo is deeply committed to the principles of sustainability. His advocacy thereof extends beyond rhetoric, as he actively seeks to integrate sustainable principles into the services offered to clients, thereby contributing to a more resilient and environmentally conscious business landscape.
Katrin Jooste
Tax Manager
Katrin Jooste was born in Port Elizabeth but her parents relocated to the Jacaranda city when she was still small.
Katrin is also a member of The South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT), which is the largest tax controlling body preferred by tax professionals. This also entails registration as an official Tax Practitioner at SARS. Being a member of SAIT ensures that all tax professionals stay abreast of all developing tax legislation and amendments in the practices of SARS, As compulsory Continuous Professional Development forms part of their membership. SAIT members also adhere to a very strict Code of Conduct, always basing their decisions on Ethics and Integrity.
She started working for The F&S Group in 1999 whilst still studying towards her B.Com Tax qualification at the University of Pretoria. She initially worked during her holidays from university and the appointment became permanent when she completed her studies. She has since then also completed a Higher Diploma in Advanced Taxation through Unisa. Katrin specialises in personal tax and has been appointed as the Manager of Tax for Africa (a The F&S Group affiliate) because of this speciality.
She also manages The F&S Group’s Tax and has dedicated herself to acquiring detailed knowledge regarding our clients and their businesses. She is assisted in her duties by two assistants who tend to the administrative duties of this department. Katrin has made it her life’s passion and calling to assist people with the daunting task of trying avoid tax without evading it. She was married in 2004 to her school sweetheart and they have three daughters.
Elsie Gouws
Lead Auditor
Elsie became part of The F&S Group in 2012 and provides guidance to our young trainees in respect of the auditing profession and requirements during audits.
Elsie Gouws obtained her Bcomm Accounting degree from the University of Pretoria in 2005. In 2007 she qualified as a Chartered Accountant at SAICA and registered auditor at IRBA. 2013 Elsie completed her Mcomm in taxation.
Dewald Van Aardt

Dewald is our newest member of The F&S Group and provides guidance to our young trainees in respect of the auditing profession and requirements during audits.
Dewald is a registered Associated General Accountant (SA) in association with the South African Institide of South Africa (SAICA). He has a strong audit background of 7 years and was specialised as a Financial reporting Specialist in the preparation of IFRS and IFRS for SME's compliant Annual Financial Statements. Dewald has experience in a wide range of industries which includes but are not limited to Agricultural, gospitality, investments, engineering, and various other commercial companies. He also brings financial management experience gained throughout his career to the team.
